I met Anne Poarch on the phone just about two years ago. I can't remember the exact date. I do remember that she was really buttoned up, inquisitive, and had a crazy idea- to start a bicycle tour outside of Richmond, VA. She was working in finance, but believed it would be a great fit for the area. I talked her through why our bikes would be great, thinking that I wouldn't hear anything back. I remember saying, "She's got a job in finance, it's just a daydream in between the lines of an excel spreadsheet!" I was wrong. A week or so later, she got her first bikes delivered with custom logos brandishing her "Bike & Basket" moniker. Only a few hours away, we talked about connecting so I could see the area, but timing didn't line up. A few weeks ago (yeah, two years after we started chatting), I was through town and got a chance to see the tour first hand. What was a dream and a phone call a couple years before turned into a signature 14 mile tour to and from the Upper Shirley Vineyards that combines history, nature, and great food & wine, along with a range of other options across a few locations. I enjoyed the tour, seeing the smiles of the riders first-hand, along with their moments of reflection, exploration, and revelation around facts from the area that they drove through every day but had never learned. Even more than the impressive tour itself, it is inspiring to see someone following their passion and taking people along the ride with them. For more info: https://www.basketandbike.com/
